Joining Hands, Changing Lives: Volunteerism at Manthan

Manthan School provides its students with various volunteer opportunities to connect with and impact people’s lives. Community service offers the ideal platform to develop life skills and gain firsthand experience and understanding of society’s needs.

Street Child United

6 teachers and 4 students represented Manthan as volunteers at the Street Child Cricket World Cup (SCCWC 2023) held in ChennaiStreet Child United (SCU) is an organisation that works to provide birth registrations, access to education, protection from violence, gender equality and other such benefits for street children across the globe. The Community Outreach & Aid Programme (COAP) Club at Manthan hosted a fundraiser including games, competitions and food stalls to raise money and awareness about street-connected young people while having fun. Manthan also screened the movie “StreetKids3: Road to Moscow” for our parents and primary students while our middle and high school students inaugurated the event with a musical performance. All proceeds from the sales of movie tickets, food stalls, and other stalls with used books, art and Manthan-grown saplings were donated to SCU.

Diwali Mela

Every year, Manthan organises a day-long carnival called the ‘Diwali Mela’ on its campus to raise funds for charity. The revenue generated from the event is used to develop Tellapur government schools in the form of new furniture, stationery, and school supplies.

The carnival offers a range of fun-filled activities for both children and adults. Food, games and crafts stalls help contribute to the cause. Parent volunteers organise food stalls and prepare food items sold at the mela, while students and staff make colourful diyas and lamps for the Diwali sale.

Fresh vegetables grown from the school garden and saplings are also sold. Parents, friends, and relatives support the cause by purchasing items from the various stalls.

Volunteering at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute

L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness. The Institute’s Rehabilitation Centre provides volunteer opportunities to Manthan students annually. The students get to record audio, create tactile learning materials and assist organisers with a summer camp for differently abled children.

The experience of interacting with visually challenged children and young adults is eye-opening and empathy-building for the students.

Neighbourhood Covid Vaccination Drive

Manthanites conducted a 3-day vaccination drive with the help of Apollo Hospitals and Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) to protect our staff and our neighbourhood residents during the pandemic. More than 4000 residents staying in Tellapur were vaccinated during this drive, along with our teachers, ayahs, drivers, chefs, and their families.

Adopt a Child Drive

As a part of community service, Manthan School successfully participated in the “Adopt a Child” programme for a couple of years. With parents and staff as our donor partners, we adopted more than 200 students from Vivekananda Public School.

The Leadership team and donors visited the school’s children and bonded with them. We all wanted to ensure that the relationship was more than just a financial contribution. Our students accompanied us on these visits. It not only made them aware of how privileged their own lives were but also highlighted the value of giving.
