Making your child's life in Middle School a wholesome experience at Manthan

We believe education should prepare young students for the world beyond school. Subject specialist teachers work with students to develop a thorough understanding of topics and concepts introduced in the classrooms. Students have an opportunity to pursue a club to develop their interests further and learn the skill in depth. In Grade 8, students get the option to choose between Cambridge IGCSE and CBSE boards to continue their studies and eventually appear for their board exams in Grade 10.

English

The curriculum is designed for students to understand different types of literature, such as prose, poetry, drama, and non-fiction texts. Creative writing, report editing, essay writing, and journaling are a part of our comprehensive language development programme. Subject expert teachers also hone students’ grammar and speaking skills.

Mathematics

Our approach is entirely inquiry-based, research-based and activity-based which involves learning by doing. Students of these groups engage themselves in various hands-on activities for the reinforcement of math concepts. A number of math lab resources like geoboard, integer counters, algebra tiles, etc. are used by students to prove properties of 2D shapes, solve linear equations, or practice operations in integers. Activities involving math resources aid clarity in concepts and facilitate active participation of kinaesthetic learners making it an enriching and enjoyable learning experience for all.

Second Language

Second Language

Hindi, Telugu and French (in Grade 8) are offered as second language options. Second language is taught following Bloom’s Taxonomy where we gradually proceed from low order skills to high order skills, from knowledge and understanding to creative skills. The complexity of skills increases as learners progress to the next learning stage. Learners are encouraged to explore additional language resources such as the library books and other reading material in order to develop proficiency in the language so that they can learn to express themselves clearly and can carry on a conversation on their own.

Social Studies & Global Perspectives

Through role-playing, mock sessions, and historical visits, we teach students about democracy and the socio-political structure of the government. Interactive boards make the experience more real and tangible. Global Perspectives is a part of the social studies curriculum and enhances the research, analytical, application and collaborative skills of the students through various group activities, discussions and presentations. It prepares students to look for solutions of global issues at local, national and international levels.

Science

We teach this subject using scientific methodology – students predict, investigate and derive conclusions for a particular topic or situation. It helps in developing their enquiry-based mindset. We also emphasise experiential learning to help students understand the facts and apply them to real-life situations.

French

French is introduced in Grade 6 as third language. Learning a non-native language requires skills of a different kind. At Manthan, we develop a set of transferable skills within the curriculum framework to help learners become proficient in the target language faster. These skills allow learners to understand and communicate in everyday situations, in non-native languages, such as French.

French

ICT

Communication and technology are utilised in all subjects to make the concepts easier to understand.

Physical Education & Extracurricular Activities

We offer a wide array of indoor and outdoor games through our PE Club. Art, Music and Drama have a definite curriculum as can be pursued through the appropriate clubs as well which now become a choice for students based on their preference. Students are given projects to work on individually and in groups, along with learning the requisite skills. Music students get various opportunities to compose and perform songs.

Throughout the year, we display students’ work in school and also conduct formal exhibitions. Theatre students learn the art of characterisation, expression, concentration, focus, control of body movements, and role-playing.

Our curriculum emphasises enquiry, action, and reflection and slowly transitions students from transdisciplinary to interdisciplinary learning. The core principles are communication, holistic development, and intercultural awareness.
